Both Friday and Saturday night starting at 9pm will be some incredible live music performances at Loony's Brew.
Lucky Dogs from Big Falls is back in town and ready to knock your socks off with a combination of covers and originals played on a range of different string instruments.
Also back in town by popular demand is solo acoustic musician Megan Resch from Duluth. A relatively low key performance that seduces you with her subtlety, you'll be tapping your feet, singing along and dancing before you know it.
Come on down to Loony's Friday, Saturday or both to enjoy a rare back to back musical jamboree!
The Music Loony
Hard to believe but it's already less than a week away, this winter is flying by so fast, blink and you'll miss it (maybe not quite but it sounded good). Thanks to Tricia and her team at the Chamber of Commerce, this year should be better than ever. Here's an overview of what's happening at Loony's Brew throughout the event, will post more updates as we get closer and recaps of what happened.
And a little recap/remembrance video from last year:
The Cold as Ice on the Outside with a Raging Fire Inside Loony
PS Don't forget today is Canada On Par day (every Sunday all day) and will have the big Vikings game on the TVs, with pints and complimentary peanuts ready to go.
Another year has come and gone and with that, here's a bit of an annual review of what worked, what didn't, and some of the activities being planned for 2018. And yeah, while this may be a bit strange coming from a pub, it can be helpful in the process of continued evolvement, change (not always a bad thing), and making things better.
2017, The Highs or What Went Well
It's always not a bad idea to reflect on what's actually been accomplished, especially so when times are slower or don't seem to be moving quite as quickly as you'd like. Patience and baby steps.
The learning lessons, things we tried but didn't work out so well and hopefully will never be repeated.
While we firmly believe in the Sun Tzu strategy of planning in darkness and strike like a thunderbolt, as well as being able to adapt and change as appropriate, here are a few items being planned for:
In summary, thanks to everyone for helping to make 2017 a great year and looking forward to an even better 2018!
The Big Picture Loony
When we first opened the pub, having free music from a playlist felt like a smart move. After all, I was sick and tired of going from one place to another and having to pay extra for the simple pleasure of listening to some tunes while having a beer or drink and relaxing a bit, it felt like an insult and I'd end up favoring pubs that catered to my partiality, especially if they had a house band. Well, like so many things in life, over time one gets new perspectives, things change, and as the old saying goes, adapt or die.
As an added bonus, we got two new speakers for the place which we've set up in the back. The default volume is the same as the speakers in the front but this can easily be adjusted, louder or quieter depending on the audience you're with, just let the bartender know if you'd like a change.
Of course, given the popularity of having live music/open mic and karaoke available at will, we still have all the original musical infrastructure in place, allowing to switch from one to another in a snap. Additionally, we could even have TouchTunes playing on the back speakers, and open mic or karaoke in the front, and while this could get confusing for the ears, the option is there.
The Rock 'n' Roll Loony
After the event, the adored Sloughgrass Bluegrass band will be kicking off the evening with great music, dancing, and an overall good time.
The Insane Events Loony
See you this Saturday and cheers,
As Elton once said, Saturday, Saturday... Yeah, while the official Halloween or Samhain day isn't until Tuesday (we'll do something then too), about a billion trillion songs have declared any real party happens on Saturday, who are we to say different.
Halloween Party & Contest
The once a year chance where everyone can pretend to be someone else at the same time, live or dead no matter. At 10pm we'll have a contest where the top three most insane or well done costumes will get a prize, these being:
